Julia Warner’s Biography

I was born in 1970 to an American father and Austrian mother in Vienna, Austria. Shortly after my birth, my family and I moved to the United States, where we lived until 1984. I grew up in Maplewood, New Jersey.

In 1984, we returned to Vienna, where I finished my secondary education at the Vienna International School in 1988. I had always been very interested in music; therefore, after finishing high school, I began studying singing and also jazz guitar. Eventually, I graduated with distinction from Prayner Konservatorium in 1997 with a degree in Jazz Voice.

During my studies in music, I began working for Berlitz Austria as an English language trainer. This proved to be a practical and flexible additional leg to stand on, and I found that I also really enjoyed it. So, in the years to follow, I balanced the two professions: English language trainer by day and jazz singer by night.

When in 2001 I was offered the job of Director of Studies at The Cambridge Institute in Vienna, I decided to go into the language business full-time. By the end of 2003, I felt ready to go into business for myself, and this was the birth of Warner Language Services. I did my CELTA and began freelancing again.

In December 2007, I completed my Masters in Education with a special focus on applied linguistics, which covered the following modules: TESOL from a Global Perspective; Language and Literacy in a Changing World; Leading and Managing for Effective Education.

Since September 2008, I have set up an office in Köstlergasse 6 – 8 in the 6th district of Vienna, where clients can have consultation appointments and private lessons.
